Harvest House Transitional Housing

Harvest House is a sober living transitional housing program for women and women with children operating in a two-bedroom home in East Oakland. Harvest House was founded, and is operated, by the nonprofit organization, A Diamond in the Ruff, Inc. (ADITR). At Harvest House, ADITR runs an 18-month independent sober living home and program, working closely with participants to break the cycle of homelessness, to recover from the impacts of domestic violence and drugs/alcohol, to find stability upon being released from incarceration, and to support those who may have one or more barriers due to mental health.

In early 2019, ADITR received notice from the property owner that he was selling the home. Fearing possible displacement as a result of a sale, ADITR sought out a partnership with OakCLT to preserve the Harvest House property for permanent use as transitional housing. Over the span of several months, OakCLT and ADITR pulled together a range of sources — both public and private — to finance the acquisition of the property. In August 2019, OakCLT completed the purchase.  OakCLT and ADITR are now evaluating the feasibility for constructing an accessory dwelling unit on site to bolster the capacity of Harvest House to serve more women.
