Scattered Site Single-Family Homes
OakCLT stewards an ever-growing portfolio of single-family homes scattered across the flatlands of Oakland, with a particular concentration in deep East Oakland. Dating back to OakCLT’s founding during the foreclosure crisis, OakCLT became a partner of the City of Oakland through their federally-funded Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP). Via this scattered-site acquisition program, OakCLT acquired and rehabilitated 16 vacant, foreclosed homes between 2010-2013. All 16 of these homes are now permanently affordable homeownership opportunities for households earning up to 80% of the area median income. OakCLT also has a long-standing alliance with Youth Employment Partnership (YEP), where through a variety of arrangements YEP has rehabilitated or constructed single-family homes for ultimate inclusion in OakCLT’s single-family homeownership program. OakCLT remains committed to making vacant land available to YEP for the construction of new homes utilizing their construction training program for young people. Since 2017, OakCLT has also been working with tenants renting single-family homes who are at risk of eviction or displacement as a result of skyrocketing rents. Through this strategy, OakCLT has negotiated the purchase of six occupied homes in partnership with the tenants, and is committed to working with these households through a lease to own process to eventually transition ownership of the homes each family.
